BOY OH BOY! I have been that person who struggles to nail down an essential question! There is so much that I want to know and I am having a hard time designing a question that has internal validity.
I need to take a survey to get some baseline data on classroom community and interpersonal relationships. I will use this data later on to help compile my focus group. I will also compare this survey to another survey later on to see if my treatments have worked and also to possibly see if there is a correlation between positive classroom surveys and reading and writing scores. I feel like I still have so much to figure out about this topic and I am also thinking that my essential question may change as the book said may happen. I need to research some trauma informed delivery models that fit my needs and the needs of my students. I also need to get some baseline data on reading and writing by giving a cold write and also completing my beginning of year Dibles benchmark assessment completed. OH! and one more thing! I have to get the Seesaw app up and running so I have a seamless way of collecting all this data!!!! wow...that a lot to do.

I'm with ya, sister! At first, I was gung ho for using tech to improve writing, but them I looked at my students' lexile scores and almost had an aneurysm right there in class. What do I focus on? It's like the chicken and egg paradox. My plan is to forget about dishes, laundry and dogs that don't behave, and just sit down and dissect all of these questions and get to the nitty-gritty. Here's to both of our success!

I had to change mine too because I didn't realize that we needed to have so much data to support my EQ. I actually talked it out with a colleague on Friday and she gave me some great ideas. I am feeling very overwhelmed. Just know that we are all in it together. I hope the learning curve gets a little easier in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Caitlin! I like your idea of taking a survey to get your baseline data on classroom community and interpersonal relationships in order to guide your focus groups. It will be interesting to see the correlation between these surveys and your reading and writing scores. Great idea!
